You may compare these with your own speakers to determine what you have. Speakers are like ice cream; we all have our favorite taste. Some like strawberry while others like chocolate. What someone finds harsh can be beautiful sparkle to others. Speakers can have different frequency response depending on materials and construction design, like cone shape, magnet weight and coil size. New speakers will therefore sound different from vintage speakers. There are of course exceptions to our preference of American speakers. One is a heavily cranked amp with a bright single coil guitar. The amp has a huge bottom end and a slightly edgy Fender 6L6 push-pull class AB cranked tone. Think of Keith Richards.
Speed equipment directory Introduction Until a few years ago, gauges were something that I had always pretty much taken for granted. Having recently spent four years searching for the narrow Halibrand magnesium wheels for the front of my Ford roadster project , and not needing another expensive and time-consuming automotive obsession, this was an area of hot rod history that I had deliberately avoided. After tracking down some very rare old hot rod and race car parts for the roadster, it became clear that in order to stay with the theme of the car, its list of goodies would have to include a set of classic Stewart Warner gauges.

On B engines, the pad, which is stamped with the engine displacement, is located on the passenger side of the block just below the distributor A. The ID pad on RB engines is located at the front of the engine above the water pump housing B and may be obscured if an AC compressor is mounted. Both ID pads include a stamped single-letter date code starting with the letter A for , B for , etc.
A letter E stamped after the displacement indicates the engine has a cast crank. The code is a series of numbers that indicate production location and date, as well as displacement. Many s and most s and s also have the displacement cast as the last three digits of the casting number on the side of the block. An easy way to spot a late externally balanced or any is to look for a balance weight on the harmonic balancer right. You can differentiate s and s by the displacement cast as part of the casting number.

I have a B Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. Lot of the guys in bands I was in had one and loved it, but it sure isn’t a keyboard amp, which is what I play now. I looked for the code letters everyplace I could sneak my hand and a flashlight into and couldn’t find anything.
With a single seat, short roof and massive trunk compartment, the model continued a line of Chrysler Corp. In later years, their useful business life at an end, these compact lightweights became attractive candidates for hot rodding and customizing. At work they were involved in developing the engines that powered Chrysler cars, such as the new generation of B-block wedge V-8s and the modern overhead-valve, inline slant six.
Applying the same principle to the exhaust headers helped suck exhaust gases out of the cylinders to improve engine breathing. Spotted at a Pomona, Calif. It might be fine if I were placed it at one end of a football stadium and ran a really long lead to the other end but in my house it rattles the windows as soon as the master volume is turned above two. Why is my Blues Deluxe so damn loud? It seems that Fender, for whatever reason, installed a linear-taper potentiometer in the Master Volume position.
Trying to stay on the right side of geeky here. A potentiometer or pot is a variable resistor. There are two types of pots used in these things.
Oct 02, · Note: it mentions that hot-rod amps built and later no longer have a date stamp in the amp. It probably also says “Made in Mexico” somewhere in or on the amp, which also indicates it is one of the newer re-issue amps.
Serial number identification and decoding August 2, How to date and identify your Fender instruments using serial numbers and production date stamps. No one likes it when you forget their birthday and neither does your Fender. Fender was sold to CBS in the first week of January , but already in late mass production was slowly being introduced, which gradually lowered quality and ultimately collectibility.
It is important to remember that Fender serial numbers are NOT conclusively chronological. Back in the day, Fender made their serial number plates in big batches and the assembler simply grabbed a decal or more from the crate and slapped it on the guitar. As a result, many numbers and dates overlap. To get as close as possible to determining the age of your Fender, make sure to check all dates on both body, neck and pots.

Josh Mortensen It amazes us to see how well prewar American cars were built, take this Ford Model 18 Tudor for example. This car would be a great starting point for everything from a full restore to a customized rod. Sadly, its the area that suffered the most exposure to the elements and is now seized up. These engines were well built, so we would try pouring some Marvel Mystery oil in the cylinders to see if it will break lose. This engine is what made these cars so popular as hot rods and gassers in the s.
Hopefully some of the old parts can be reused and some of that great aged look can be preserved. Hopefully who ever ends up buying this car will leave the exterior of the car original. Most of these cars end up either being completely restored or turned into rat rods, and while they look great either way, it would be awesome to keep the car just as it was the day it was pulled from the barn.

The Hot Rod Deluxe is possibly the best-selling Fender guitar amplifier of all time. There have been a number of incarnations (including a current LTD lacquered-tweed limited edition, with a run of just units), but if you have an older amp (pre), the easiest way to determine the production date is to look at the chart below.
The combination of size, weight and performance makes the Deluxe Reverb a true road warrior on gigs and practise. Since the year we have observed, by monitoring the amp market on US ebay, that low wattage amps have increased dramatically in popularity. We find it irrational. The PA was invented long time before that and guitar tones containing fuzz and distortion have been around since the sixties-seventies.
Why has the desire for low wattage amps with watts of tube power come up so late? Many people consider the silverface amps just as sonically good as the blackface models. Being almost a blackface amp with a new faceplate wrong for collectors , the silverface models became popular value-for-the-money amps. The circuit was then significantly different from the blackface circuit.
You will be able to shape your tone significantly with just the right speaker s and tubes. We usually start with explaining a mod from a functional perspective where we relate to components in the logical schematics diagram. Finally we point out location of components in the physical layout diagram. The Linda Ronstadt amp, a mini-Vibroverb. It is a 71 silverface Deluxe Reverb that we bought from the Linda Ronstadt band.
History[ edit ] A development of hot rodding, the change in name corresponded to the change in the design of the cars being modified. The first hot rods were pre- World War II cars, with running boards and simple fenders over the wheels. Early model cars to were modified by removing the running boards and either removing the fenders entirely or replacing them with very light cycle fenders.

However, if you ask me right now, how am I doing, I would absolutely say, I am so blessed. My family and I suffered a huge loss when our year old farmhouse was internally destroyed by a large fire in October. This fire is thought to have started as a result of a lithium-ion rechargeable power-tool battery that exploded in our modern Florida Room that existed off the kitchen.
The battery explosion caused a large fire that burned through two natural gas lines, exploding the windows into my kitchen, and destroying the lower area of my home. First off, the fire started about half an hour after my husband and youngest two children left the home to meet me and my oldest son at a robotics competition. So, no one was hurt. I got the call from the neighbors and we arrived back home about 45 minutes later. The fire was out by the time we got home, so we were spared watching it burn.
The firefighters were amazing in their efforts to save our structure. The firemen attempted to save our dogs, and worked on Rusty, our beagle, for 15 minutes with CPR and a dog mask.
